Art Education
I began my career teaching art as an active employee in the Education Department at the Cleveland Museum of Art from 1998-2003. I taught the children’s art classes, creating a syllabus inspired by the museum's permanent and traveling exhibitions. My job in the Education Department extended to group tours for school children, often followed by a hands-on art project influenced by the tour. I was also an instructor at the Family Workshop Programs, a free hands-on workshop held on weekends and open to both adults and children. The Outreach Program was yet another branch with which I taught. It was established to bring art into the communities lacking in comprehensive art programs. I was one of the instructors that conducted my own workshops both within and beyond the boundaries of the museum.
My experience at the Cleveland Museum of Art ignited my passion to teach in as many venues as possible. In addition to teaching children I began teaching adult art classes at The Orange Art Center and The Valley Art Center. The positive feedback and incredible experiences teaching a wide range of ages propelled my decision to enroll in the Art Education Masters program at Case Western Reserve University in 2001.
