Kali/Durga

The Goddess Durga is the mother of the universe and the power behind the work of creation, preservation and destruction. Durga can be translated as fort, “a place difficult to overrun” or “the one who eliminates suffering.” She is depicted with 8-10 hands as a means to protect the devotees from all directions.

The love between the Divine Mother and her children is unique. Kali is a ferocious form of the mother goddess. She is a deity with whom her devotees have a very loving and intimate bond in spite of her fearful appearance, which often appears as the ultimate stink eye.
